7 Days Tsunza Community AdventureDay 1: Arrival Mombasa

On arrival in Mombasa either by flight / SGR you will be met and greeted by our representative who will offer all the necessary assistance that you will need on arrival. You will be transferred to your hotel for check in. Spend the rest of the day at leisure!

Day 2: Mombasa – Tsunza COMMUNITY

Mangrove ConservationIn the morning you will be picked up to start your Day 1 of community adventure!This exciting adventure will take you to Tsunza village also nicnamed “Tsunza Peninsula” since it is surrounded by water. In Tsunza you will find a small population of a unique local coastal people known as the “Duruma”. In the 19th century Arab settlers during that period were involved in slave trade and Tsunza provided a hide out for those fleeing arrest by the slave masters which has given Tsunza a unique adventure point. Tsunza is rich in original and pristine traditional heritage sites and features with a marvel for bird watching and photography. You will take a local boat ride at the jetty to Tsunza where you will be met by the locals and their leaders excited to spend the day with you. This day will be a day to enjoy the scenic beauty of this village. You will visit the scenic areas of Tsunza Mteza and Mwache creeks and find the spectacular eye catching V-shape they create when the 2 rivers meet in the ocean! Only seen here! Later afternoon return to your hotel

Day 3: Tsunza Village – Cultural Experience

Local ExperiencesAnother day of excitement! A day of restoring cultures! Join the Tsunza villagers in a day of cultural discovery! Vist a typical Duruma homestead who are polygamous. Meet the oldest elder in the village who will share his lifestyle and that of the Duruma families. Visit a traditional healer who will take you through the process of a healing session. Meet Ngala Saba our wine tapping expert and enjoy a wine tapping session and tasting. In the afternoon enjoy the cultural dancers of Duruma! Learn to shake the waist and shoulders to the beat of the drum enjoying a refreshing local drink “madafu”(coconut drink). Many more exciting activities will unfold on this day.

Day 4: Tsunza village – Saving the Environment

Mangrove ConservationThriving Mangrove eco system enhances fishery production thus alleviating poverty. Mangroves act as shock absorbers during calamities in this era of climate change. Mangroves enhance aesthetic beauty of coastal areas. Mangroves are rich in carbon sink. This day we will enhance the environment by supporting this community in their afforestation program of planting Mangroves. Adopt a Mangrove @ 1 USD and be part of supporting the environment. We will then visit a local school and participate in different activities with the children and support our sustainability foot print of eradicating illiteracy. We will then enjoy a food preparation and tasting prepared the traditional way.

Day 5: Tsunza village – Local water activities

Dow Fishing and SailingExtra exciting! Depart your hotel in the morning to spend a full day of various activities in Tsunza village which include their economic activities mainly fishing. Find out the different ways they do their fishing e.g. Crab fishing, net fishing, con net fishing etc and have time to look at their fish pond farming. This day you will also enjoy short trips of Dhow sailing and boat rowing! Later visit their craft village and be part of their weaving and beading! Take a short lesson in beading or weaving and just enjoy the extra ordinary moments!Support this craft projects mainly run by women groups by purchasing a sourvenir to carry home! Join the dance moments as you bid this community farewell ensuring that you have indeed participated in leaving this community better than you found it!

Day 6: At your hotel

Dow Fishing and SailingThis day relax and enjoy your time at your beach hotel enjoying the facilities the hotel offers. In the evening (optional at an extra cost) we can book for you dhow dinner trip on the Indian Ocean! OR you can take a full day to Wasini Island to enjoy a snorkelling and Whale watching adventure(also optional at an extra cost)

7 Days Tsunza Community AdventureDay 7: SGR Station / Airport – Nairobi

In the morning after breakfast in good time and “full of lasting memories”, you will bid Mombasa “kwaheri” meaning goodbye and you will be transferred to either SGR / Moi Airport for your travel back to Nairobi. In Nairobi you will be met and transferred to your own onward plans.

  • We are advocates of zero use of single use plastics. Therefore we recommend clients to carry refillable water bottles
  • Our driver’s are not allowed to drive off road while in the parks! We need you to help us protect the environment where the animals reside.
