Kakamega Forest National ReserveDAY 1: ARRIVAL NAIROBI JKIA

At the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport – JKIA, you will be met by AsaRay tours representation, who will offer you all the assistance you will need on arrival. After which you will settle in your transfer vehicle and transfer to The Boma Hotel for overnight. You will spend the rest of this day at Leisure!

DAY 2:  NAIROBI – LAKE NAIVASHA – LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK 

Kakamega Forest National ReserveEarly morning you will depart Nairobi and drive to Lake Naivasha. Lake Naivasha is a beautiful Fresh water lake fringed by thick papyrus. The Lake and its surroundings are rich in natural bounty. Most of the Lake is surrounded by forests of yellow barked Acacia or Yellow fever tree. The Forest abounds with bird life which makes it the best birding destination. The lake draws wild game like Giraffe, Buffalos, Colobus monkeys etc. and Hippos population sleep the day out in the Lakes waters. You will also take “a walk on the wild side” at Hells Gate National Park which is in Naivasha. Hell’s Gate National Park is a remarkable quarter of the Great Rift Valley. Spectacular scenery including the towering cliffs, water-gouged gorges, stark rock towers, scrub clad volcanoes and belching plumes of geothermal steam make it one of the most atmospheric Parks in Africa. A cycling game drive while at Hells Gate will be an exciting experience! (Bikes hired at the gate at an extra cost). Lunch in Naivasha. Depart Lake Naivasha and drive to Lake Nakuru National Park with game viewing en route. Check in at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge in the evening. Lake Nakuru is one of the Rift Valley Soda Ash Lakes. The Lakes abundance of algae attracts the vast quantity of Flamingoes that famously line the shores. The Lake lies to the South of Nakuru in the Rift Valley and is protected by the Lake Nakuru National Park. The ecosystem of Lake Nakuru comprises of the lake, surrounded by mainly wooded and bushy grassland. The park provides for about 56 different species of mammals including the White Rhinos and buffaloes. A variety of terrestrial birds including Flamingoes are found in this park.

DAY 3: LAKE NAKURU TO MT. ELGON NATIONAL PARK

Kakamega Forest National ReserveAn early morning game drive in Nakuru and back to the Lodge for breakfast. After breakfast with picnic lunch, take a mid morning game drive in Lake Nakuru. Ensure to visit the Baboon cliff which is a spectacular view point of the Lake. Later depart Nakuru and drive to Mt. Elgon National Park.

Mt. Elgon is known as the “untamed wilderness, secluded splendour!” Mt. Elgon is a towering volcanic giant, crowned by a vast caldera etched by glacial tarns, honeycombed by labyrinthine caves, fissured by valleys and cascaded by streams. It is the 8th highest mountain in the world. The dense forest with unique habitation, the elephant caves, the rocky caves and hills, the spectacular waterfalls are just some of the excitements to look out for while at Mt. Elgon. The unique animal population found here is also one to get excited for e.g. bushbuck, Red Duiker, Grey Duiker and buffalo, all in search of the salts that abound in the mineral-rich earth of the caves. The highlights of this park are the “salt-mining elephants of Kitum caves dubbed the troglodyte tuskers! Mt. Elgon is dotted with caves formed from ancient lava tubes and spectacular waterfalls!

Spend the full day in Mt. Elgon hiking, mountain climbing, rock climbing and scenic viewing. Lunch is picnic.

DAY 5: MT. ELGON TO KAKAMEGA FOREST NATIONAL RESERVE

Kakamega Forest National ReserveDepart Mt. Elgon in the morning and drive to Kakamega Forest National Reserve which is referred to as “the canopy of natural beauty”. The only remaining tropical rain forest in Kenya of the Guineo-congolian that once stretched from West Africa to East Africa.  Using research this forests harbors’ over 360 species of birds, 380 species of plants, 400 species of butterflies and 7 species of primates. The plants here are highly believed to be medicinal by the local community. They believe they can treat Malaria, prostate cancer, common cold etc – discover! It is an ornithologists dream revealing rare bird species like Great blue turaco, Turners Eremomela etc.  Rare mammals like Tree Pangolins and Potto are found here. Enjoy guided tours in this reserve with a professional tour guide who will explain and interpret Tropical rain forest biodiversity and cultural activities of the local people staying around the forest.

DAY 6: KAKAMEGA FOREST NATIONAL RESERVE

Kakamega Forest National ReserveSpend the full day in this haven taking part in game viewing, bird watching, hiking, Rock climbing and scenic views in this place. Before you call it a day, you will do Scenery and Landscapes to an amazing feature in this community referred to by the locals as “the crying stone”. This stone is about 40m with a small rock perched on the top, revealing a unique formation of a wailing human being. Its an acid plutonic rock consisting of quarts, alkali, feldspar and mica. It now serves as a shrine and cultural site to the community. This community is also known for “the bull fighting ceremony” A serious and exciting ceremony valuable in this community! Enjoy the scenic view of this stone and listen the myth and cultural belief associated to this stone! Wonderful day of discovery! In the evening return to your hotel.

Kakamega Forest National ReserveDAY 7: NAIROBI

In the morning after breakfast, you will bid Kakamega town “kwaheri” meaning goodbye and “full of lasting safari memories”, you will be transferred to Kisumu International Airport. You will board your local flight KSM/NBO. You will arrive Nairobi to be dropped off for own onward plans.
