7 Days Kasigau Community and Lumo

ITINERARY:

Day 1: Arrival Nairobi / Mombasa

7 Days Kasigau Community and LumoOn arrival in Nairobi / Mombasa you will be met and greeted by our representative who will offer all the necessary assistance that you will need on arrival. You will be transferred to your hotel for check in. Spend the rest of the day at leisure!

Day 2: Nairobi / Mombasa – KASIGAU COMMUNITY

7 Days Kasigau Community and LumoOn this day, either you are transferred to the SGR train station for your morning train to Voi town or you are transferred to the Airport for your morning flight to Mombasa.  Either options on arrival you will be met and drive to Mt. Kasigau. Mount Kasigau is part of the Eastern Arc Mountains with beautiful views of the Gae rock which has a spectacular sundowner. On arrival at Kasigau village, you will be met by the local guide and a village elder. After brief introductions you will check into your accommodations. You will then join local guide who will take you through the village orientation, familiarization and settling in. You will experience the good hospitality of natives and at night enjoy cultural dances and unique story telling by the village elder on the first world war between British and Germany and how it affected this community – the Taita!

Day 3: Full day Trekking on Mount Kasigau

7 Days Kasigau Community and LumoAfter breakfast, with your picnic lunch boxes you will depart for a day of adventure on Mt. Kasigau. Mount Kasigau boarders the Southern West reaches of Tsavo West National Park. It’s a famous hill which was used by British and German as observation point during 01st world war in 1914. It is 1641 meter above sea level , 14.6 kilometers ascending and descending. You must be physically fit in order to climb. For this climb, equip yourselves with proper shoes e.g. hiking boots / sports shoes, raincoat, camera and if possible binoculars. The climb will take you between 6 – 8hrs (up and down). Mt. Kasigau is surrounded by 5 villages which are Kiteghe, Rukanga, Jora, Bungule, and Makwasinyi with a population of 9,000 people. The mountain is the main water catchment of 5 villages. The forest has 3 categories to look out for which are deciduous forest, semi – ever green forest and rain forest. The mountain has endemic bird species like Taita White eye bird and many medicinal plants e.g. Cassia Abbreviate which is used as a painkiller. Adventure of discovery! Those who are not able to do the trek will do a walking adventure to enjoy the scenery, learn medicinal plant, visit shrine caves, learn how Taita people protect their family from bad spirits of dead relatives and the steep cliff where those practicing witch craft were punished by our ancestors. In the evening return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

 Day 4: Kasigau Community to Lumo Community Wildlife Conservancy

7 Days Kasigau Community and LumoLumo is an eco system created by the local community in partnership with conservationists and nature enthusiasts with a passion for preserving the natural beauty and biodiversity of this remarkable place. Community involvement and responsible tourism is part and parcel of Lumo Community Conservancy. Join us on this journey with a mission to preserve and protect the environment, Wildlife and the people by visiting Lumo. Enjoy game walks / drives in this park capturing every opportunity to see the wildlife found here! Volunteer to join the rangers on a patrolling mission early morning! Discover the animal species that are rare to this conservancy

Day 5: Lumo Community

7 Days Kasigau Community and LumoBy visiting Lumo Conservancy you are actually supporting our sustainable foot print of communities accessing quality education, eradication of poverty, accessing good healthcare and reducing gender inequality. Spend the day in the local community and understand how this conservancy is actually offering this community sustainable options both economically and socially. Visit a school, a hospital, women groups that are actually benefiting from the proceeds that come through Lumo. Enjoy the cultural background / activities, lifestyles in this community. Enjoy song and dance the “mwazindika” way and return to you camp feeling full filled.

Day 6: Lumo Conservancy to Mombasa

7 Days Kasigau Community and LumoAfter breakfast in the morning depart and drive to the coastal city of Mombasa to relax at the beach. This day relax and enjoy your time at your beach hotel enjoying the facilities the hotel offers. In the evening (optional at an extra cost) we can book for you dhow dinner trip on the Indian Ocean!

Day 7: SGR Station / Airport – Nairobi

In the morning after breakfast in good time and “full of lasting memories”, you will bid Mombasa “kwaheri” meaning goodbye and you will be transferred to either SGR / Moi Airport for your travel back to Nairobi. In Nairobi you will be met and transferred to your own onward plans.

  • We do not support single use plastics on all our safaris. We recommend our clients to carry reusable water bottles.

  • Half board accommodation in Mombasa.i.e. 2 meals a day

  • Items of personal nature i.e. drinks in the lodges, telephone/fax bills, laundry etc,
  • Any other items not specified in the inclusions”

 

What to Carry:

  • A digital Camera, its charger and a downloading cable
  • Torch, Tooth paste, warm clothing for the night, pain killers, drinks, snacks and Identifications card / passport for gate entrance
  • Pocket money for drinks and gift for the village visits
